FAQ

When it comes to physiotherapy and chiropractic treatments, you likely have a lot of questions. Here are some of the frequently asked questions that we get to our clinic about our services in order to give you the information you need as soon as possible.

In short, yes. Patients who are coming in for the Graston Technique® often tell us that it feels uncomfortable during the process. However, it feels like a “good” type of pain, as if something is happening to the problem area. Think of a very deep massage. As uncomfortable it may be, it will actually feel great once the treatment is done and help reduce the pain once your session is over. It should be noted that many people feel tender to touch in the area of treatment; however, their mobility has increased.

There is no set time as to when you’ll start to feel better that can be applied to everyone. Each patient that comes in has different needs and conditions, and some patients heal more quickly than others. Healing depends on many different factors such as age, type of injury, diet, overall health, how your body responds to treatment, how long you’ve had the injury, the body’s healing time, and ultimately how committed you are to treatment. Once you meet with us we can provide you with a better, customized estimation of how many treatments you need and how long it will take.

We recommend that all patients come to their appointment wearing loose, comfortable clothing. You should also wear clothing that allows us to easily access the area of focus. For example, if you are arriving for treatment for a shoulder injury, wear a tank top. If you are treating a knee problem, wear shorts. Please avoid wearing skirts, dresses, or very tight pants.

This will depend on the insurance company you are insured with. If they allow for direct billing, we can take care of this for you. However, if they do not allow it, you will have to submit the insurance claim yourself.

During your first visit, we will begin by asking you questions about your health and your injuries or problem areas. After that, we’ll do an examination to figure out exactly what is wrong and what structures are affected within the body. At that point, we will discuss a treatment plan to correct the problem. Finally, we will do our first treatment.

No. Chiropractors are classified as primary health care providers, so you can make an appointment directly with us. We don’t require a referral or a doctor’s note for our services.

This depends on the specific treatment you need. For chiropractic appointments, the first initial treatment will take 30 minutes, and subsequent visits will take approximately 10 to 15 minutes. For physiotherapy appointments, the first initial treatment is 45 minutes, and subsequent visits are approximately 30 minutes.

When you come for your first appointment, please bring insurance information and any doctor referrals you have. Please be sure to wear loose, comfortable clothes that allow us to see or access the injured area easily.

Yes, they are. Chiropractic adjustments are highly skilled movements that loosen the joint, increasing mobility. During your adjustment you will hear a popping sound once the joint is loosened, which may sound scary, but is a completely normal part of the process. Dr. Devassy is a highly educated and one of the top chiropractors in the Greater Toronto Area, and is highly trusted and regarded in chiropractic adjustments. You can trust him to ensure the process is safe and effective.

Depending on which issue or injury you need to treat, sometimes exercises will be suggested in order to help improve your strength and mobility. Exercises are beneficial and productive in recovery as well as preventing another injury from occurring in the future. Therefore, they are often recommended as part of many treatment plans.

The Graston Technique® is designed to treat only the bad scar tissue and adhesions after an injury. This tissue is living tissue, and when it is broken down small blood vessels called capillaries can break and cause what looks like a bruise. This is all perfectly normal and part of the healing process, and any bruises will disappear after your treatment.
