Custom Orthotics

An orthotic can be inserted into the shoe to support, align, prevent and or accommodate foot deformities and improve foot function. Used in conjunction with appropriate footwear, an orthotic can be effective in helping to treat a number of foot and lower limb conditions as well as provide comfort or relief during everyday activities.

Custom orthotics are inserts that are made specifically for your feet to be inserted into your shoes and worn on a regular basis. They work by manipulating the angle your feet hit the ground when you walk, run, or move and re-aligning it in order to provide relief, alignment, and support.

Targeting support and pain in the foot and lower limbs has a significant impact on the joints and limbs throughout the rest of the body. Improper foot support can lead to knee pain, back pain, and even hip pain that could eventually require the need for invasive surgery.

It is possible to purchase over-the-counter orthotics, but these will not be custom made for your specific foot, lifestyle, gait, and goals and are therefore less effective overall. When you work with our Derry Village Physio team for custom orthotics, we will conduct an examination of your specific ailment and medical history to measure the ideal insert for your foot. We take into consideration your lifestyle, the cause of your pain, and your physical body type in order to create an orthotic. This allows us to create an individualized treatment to relieve the specific condition or pain you are suffering from.
